Frequently Asked Questions

Each volunteer should register in advance at gleaners.volunteerhub.com Registering is quick and easy and only takes about two minutes. If you are volunteering as a family unit, each family member will need their own account, including minors. Feel free to use the same password though to keep things simple.

If you’re volunteering as part of a group, you’ll have a link specific to your group so you can register. The person from your group who scheduled your volunteer shift with our team will receive this link and all the information necessary for your group shift and then share it with you.

What you should wear:
1. Please make sure to wear closed-toed shoes. If you do not wear closed-toed shoes, you will be asked to borrow from our collection of shoes or reschedule your shift.
2. The warehouse is not temperature controlled. So, in the winter you may want to dress in layers; in the summer you may want to wear shorts and a t-shirt.

Gleaners has lockers you will be able to safely store your purses, bags, and other belongings in.

Gleaners will provide water, gloves, and any safety equipment you may need.

When you arrive, please park on the right hand side of the parking lot.

Spaces that are coned or marked off are part of our drive-thru food pantry line — please do not park in them. During active pantry hours DO NOT GET IN THE LINE, or you will be stuck until the line moves.

If you are unsure of what to do when you arrive, you can check in with a parking lot volunteer for further directions.

Please make sure to arrive 15 minutes early to allow for time to check in on one of our tablets and get situated.

We’ll then begin with an orientation to let you know about how you’ll help, go over procedures and safety reminders, and provide training specific to the project that you’re working on.

At the end of your shift, we’ll make sure to share how many meals you help provide during your shift.

Most projects require repetitive light lifting and bending, so volunteers should be comfortable standing for a 2 or 3 hour shift. However, some accommodations like chairs and seated projects can be available. Just let us know when you’re signing up if you need accommodations so we can determine the best project fit for you.

The food bank is wheelchair accessible and there are handicapped parking spaces located at the volunteer entrance.

Volunteer groups are welcome to use our on-site meeting spaces to host a meeting or have lunch before or after volunteering. Our browning board and community room has seating for 80 and our gathering room has seating for 12.

You’ll need to reserve a room in advance, so make sure you check in with our volunteer department ahead of time to reserve your space. There is no charge to reserve a room, although donations are always appreciated.
